After studying music at the Royal Academy of Music I taught piano for a number of years before a move north to Cumbria and a complete change of career in the 1990’s. I worked for a mental health charity in Carlisle for several years before becoming interested in Carer’s issues and taking on the position of Manager of Eden Carers based in Penrith. At that time there was no Carers’ support organisation in Carlisle, so along with the Local Authority, Health, and other Carers’ organisations in Cumbria I helped to establish Carlisle Carers in 2002.
In 2006 I moved to Glasgow to take up the position of Development Manager for Scotland for Carers Trust, formerly The Princess Royal Trust for Carers, supporting 21 Carers Centres across Scotland.
After nearly 10 years in Scotland I took early retirement and returned to Cumbria. This was the time for my husband and I to indulge our love of travelling, walking, our ongoing love of music, and to spend more time with our grandchildren. Shortly after our return I joined the Board of Carlisle Carers where I remained as Chair until the organisation’s recent merger with n-compass.
