Advocacy: Susan's Story
Susan has autism and resides in 24-hour care accommodation.
The manager of the home had been trying get more funding to support Susan to get out in the community more to lessen the restrictions to her liberty due to being in care. The manager contacted Susan’s Relevant Persons Representative (RPR) to support the process.
The RPR spoke to Susan and learned that she liked where she lives, going to a day service, going out for walks, on the bus and shopping. The RPR facilitated meetings and provided support that resulted in Susan securing extra funding, this meant Susan was able to enjoy an extra day service and more days out thanks to the impact Advocacy has made for her.
