Kiera's Story - The Struggles Of A Parent Carer
Kiera came to n-Compass for help because she was struggling to care for her two young sons who had been diagnosed with both autism and ADHD. Her own mood was low, and she was struggling with depression and anxiety, and was worried about debt, too.
One of our Carers Services, Cheshire East Carers Hub, was able to put Kiera in touch with a support group who could help her, a referral for some talking therapy, as well as CHAT Line, and she was encouraged by our support worker to access help from Citizens Advice too.
Kiera also accessed peer-support, and was able to meet some other mums who were in a similar situation to her, at a Parent Carers group, which she found really helpful. She went on to set up a more accessible Parent Carers group at the Welcome Cafe, which has made a real difference to her, other parents in her situation, and their children.
These simple things allowed Kiera to feel helped, connected and supported in her community, and this went a long way to help get her life back on track.
