Harry has profound learning disabilities, is unable to communicate, and can be initially distressed and aggressive when meeting his advocate. Our advocate used a Talking Mat, allowing him to communicate his unhappiness in shared accommodation. The advocate visited at various times to understand his views due to fluctuating capacity and observe his behaviour using the watching brief approach. His increased ability to communicate his views and wishes helped to ease his anxiety.
